Joe Monteleone, the “Andy Warhol of modern dance” (The Moving Beauty Series) is “A one-man-band soloist and choreographer who mixes his own music, video art, records monologues, and controls his own lighting - the rare control freak who can do it all and come out with a dazzlingly realized project” (Huffington Post).  His multimedia solo work and company (Monteleone Dance) have been presented extensively in New York City, nationally and internationally to great acclaim, listed in the Huffington Post’s “Best Dance Performances of 2017”. Joe is at the forefront of movement invention his New Axiom Movement, described as “Extraordinary . . . confined explosive physical force and motion-filled movement variety” (Critical Dance). “Far and away the most moving and meticulous dancer” (Phoenix New Times), Joe’s “masterful use of technology [allows] him to incorporate the highest quality sound and imagery, further amplifying his exceptional dance and choreographic skills” (The Dance Enthusiast) to create cerebral multimedia dance theatre.

Joe won the Audience Favorite Award at NYC10 in 2015 for his solo work “Defense Mechanism”, and was voted favorite choreographer at The Intimate Series.  His live installation work has been presented at the Peridance Capezio Center (NYC), the Alpha Art Gallery (New Jersey), the Infinito Gallery (NYC), and the Jersey City Council for the Arts as part of Jersey City Arts and Studio Tour.   Joe has been commissioned by The Moving Beauty Series (Brooklyn), coLAB Arts (NJ), Rutgers University, Vanessa Long Dance Company, NJ Performing Arts Center/Jersey New Moves Fellowship, and twice by Amalgamate Dance Company where “The work of choreographers Joe Monteleone and Joya Powell left the greatest impressions . . . set the studio on fire” (Huffington Post 2017).  Joe has taught and lectured at Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers), Rider University, Raritan Valley Community College, PMT Dance Studio (NYC), Arizona State University, MoveDIPR, Ballet Forte, DancePlus Little Silver, and regularly gives guest performances and workshops at institutions. He received his BFA in Dance at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers, and has worked for choreographers Sidra Bell, Manuel Vignoulle, Randy James, NivOren, Stefanie Batten Bland, Inbal Pinto, Julia Ritter, and various others.

Joe is also a professional fire spinner and member of Brooklyn Proposition. He has recently made his debut at Burning Man 2019.
